Leatherman 830850 Skeletool CX Multitool Review

Leatherman 830850 Skeletool CX Multitool
I've owned practically every Leatherman and SOG multi-tool produced within the last Many years; a few Gerbers and Swiss Army brands thrown in there also. And I've got to simply jump in and say, this Leatherman 830850 Skeletool CX Multitool really is arguably the most effective Leatherman ever. Only a perfect mix of quality tools, lightweight and, as practically every reviewer comments, it is simply gorgeous!

Multi-tools are already an actual growth area in the knife industry over the past couple of years and many have followed a 'how-much-more-stuff-can-we throw-in here' model...to a point where the bigger Leathermans and SOGS weigh just as much as the toolbox they replace. Not just a gripe, I'm certain many make use of them effectively; I am aware I do my bigger ones as well. It is simply reached the location where the 'convenience' factor has been lost. Witness the amazing selection of smaller keychain tools and you may easily note that Leatherman wisely went for the middle ground within this design: just enough tools to help you get by and light enough to be sure it isn't a burden in your wallet. It's rather a homer on being the perfect size.

Out of the deal you get a great pair of pliers, interchangeable screw-driver bits (philips and flat-head included) a knife and a bottle opener that doubles being a carbiner.

The Leatherman 830850 Skeletool CX Multitool bits are interchangeable along with other Leatherman tools employing the same bits, though Leatherman amped up this design to add a 'locking' feature on the bits; a lot needed touch with bits this small. Since I have already own a Leatherman Charge Ti, I've a bunch of bits at hand and you may buy bit kits from Leatherman. The bottle opener is merely flat-out perfect plus the best place possible; no unfolding the tool after which another unfold to start a bottle opener; just going out at the rear where it must be. The knife blade is probably the very best shaped knife Leatherman has produced; partially serrated generating of 154CM which is an uncharacteristically great steel for a multi-tool blade. And lastly, the pliers...this can be one area that Leatherman stands completely alone in quality in (sorry SOG and Gerber)...close the pliers and check out them in the end; the jaws mate perfectly. They mate so fine you may use them as tweezers; try it sometime, I have and so they work! Other manufacturers pliers work fine as pliers, but none of them possess the alignment that Leathermans do.

The carbon fiber insert is trick for certain but you don't gain anything apart from the 'wow' factor.

So, overall almost perfect; Leatherman 830850 Skeletool CX Multitool really is perfect for me, though your mileage may vary. Easily had any 'one' thing I want to see included it will be scissors but that's just wishful thinking on my part...I honestly have no idea the way they could pack it into such a minimalist tool.

One last note: In the event you pocket carry, while I do, you will have to know that the pocket clip is small (it has to be)...also it's very, very tight. Meaning, you may wear a place on your pockets; just no way around it on this model. Some I have seen have put heat-shrink tubing on their own clips to help alleviate this, however I haven't tried it yet.

Leatherman 830850 Skeletool CX Multitool is a great tool, does its intended function. Superb quality. Wow factor from the charts.
