John Deere 4010J Traveling Sprinkler Green Review

With vast water coverage of up to 13,500 square feet, and the eerie ability to travel on its own, the John Deere Traveling Sprinkler is perfect for watering odd-shape yards. This magic hydro-propelled sprinkler follows a pattern laid out by the hose for custom watering of round or oblong yards. The sprinkler features arms and tips that adjust to emit a circular spray pattern 15 to 55 feet in diameter, perfect for watering flush with the fence or flowerbed, but not over. The sprinkler is constructed with a die cast zinc body for optimal durability and years of reliable irrigation. Cast iron back wheels and polyurethane front wheels let this 2-speed traveler follow hose for up to 200 feet before the sprinkler's shut-off ramp automatically stops the tractor and shuts off the water. --Brian Olson

Good Tractor All Summer
By M. Williams

Gilmour has improved this design over the one pictured here. The spray wands are identical to a Nelson tractor. I used this tractor to water 5500 ft² of dense bermuda grass twice a week from March until October. I can say that it did an awesome job and my lawn looked great! It worked trouble-free until entering its 8th month of service, when the internal gears stripped out. I was away on business and my wife set it up, so I'm not sure if it was just getting worn out or she did something different. ;-) This is the only reason I am not giving it 5 stars. If this worries you, I should also note my neighbor replaces the gears in his Nelson tractor about every year as well.

John Deere travelling sprinkler
By Janet Poole (Bella Coola, BC)

I absolutely love my new John Deere travelling sprinkler. I have a large yard and now I don't have to move the sprinkler to cover everything. One thing to watch for if you live in a rural area and aren't on a city water system is debris that can be in the water. This causes the screen in the hose to plug up but is easy to fix. The sprinkler is well made and very easy to assemble and it is a pleasure to watch it 'travelling' across my lawn. My husband and I would recommend this sprinkler to everyone, it's great!
